CHEATERS BEWARE!

Julianne has recently let everyone in on a little secret of mine… Yes, I am officially obsessed with Foursquare. I check in everywhere I go, I write tips and recommendations on places I visit and I even write on the Facebook fan page! I am proud to say that I have 6 Mayorships, including the Mayor of Response as well as 7 badges (which personally I think is kind of weak and I am TRYING my hardest to get new ones).

With all of this being said, its obvious I take my Foursquare game pretty seriously so i was so stoked to read an article on Mashable this morning about ‘Foursquare Cracking Down on Cheaters’. When I recently informed my roommates (and successfully persuaded a few to be just as obsessed as I am) about this new social media craze, the first thing they said was, “What is stopping me, and anyone else for that matter, from checking into places I’ve never been and getting a ton of badges.” Honestly, I had no answer… really all i could say, and hope was that people wouldn’t cheat and they would keep the game honest and fun… but everyone knows that is a stretch…

…Well apparently Foursquare has realized that it is a stretch too, because they are updating all of the Foursquare Apps and cracking down on cheaters! How you ask? GPS Location. Now, you can check in where ever you want, whenever you want, but you will only receive badges, mayorships and points if your GPS can prove that you are where you claim to be. There are still a few bugs in the new technology but Foursquare promises to continually develop the software.

So play on my fellow Foursquare lovers- cause I am bringing the competition! And add me to your list of friends (Katie Ivy), who knows, maybe we’ve seen each other before!
