A Friday Scarier Than The 13th

Here at Response, we recently had our first snowstorm of the year.

It was magical.

Until it wasn’t.

Hours of traffic. Slush up to our eyeballs. And wind, oh that wind, cut into our bones like it was slicing up Jell-O. With such misery, you can see how it would be hard to find any good from it. But we’re a happy group here, and this snowstorm was just a reminder that the holidays are coming.

Normally with our Top 10 list we’d focus on said holiday of the month, (which would be Thanksgiving for those living under a rock), but, ultimately, have decided another holiday deserves our attention. This holiday is almost as important as Thanksgiving and follows it along like a little brother. It’s known only as Black Friday. To make sure your Black Friday festivities run smoothly, here are the Top 10 tips to remember when preparing for doomsday…I mean Black Friday.

1. It’s important to leave your emotions at the door but to take your elbow pads and helmet with you. People show no mercy during this treacherous holiday.
2. Go with a group of people. Not because you can get better deals, but because you will be miserable. And misery loves company.
3. Running from a crowd might look like fun in the movies, but this is not the movies. (Unless we’re living in a very interesting version of The Truman Show).
4. Chances are if they are offering this crazy-good deal on Black Friday, they’ll have it again soon.
5. Map out your stores accordingly. You might want to hit Best Buy second, but will spend 4 hours getting there from Walmart.
6. Going out shopping on Black Friday ensures that the smart people who decided to stay home will eat all the good leftovers, leaving you with that piece of turkey no one wants, and some half-eaten cranberry sauce.
7. Bringing leftover apple and pumpkin pie is a great way to “encourage” people to let you go in first.
8. Learn the layout of the stores you plan on visiting to maximize efficiency and to find shortcuts to other areas.
9. Take notes from the football games the day before, and practice proper tackle, stiff-arm and pass blocking techniques.
10. The more turkey you eat on Thursday, the harder it will be to wake up on Friday.

Happy hunting and stay tuned next month for our last Top 10 blog post of the year.
