Sometimes You Can Be A Real A-Hole (To Yourself)

We previously posted about Facebook allowing users and companies to have personalized usernames for their pages. One of the hurdles, which is intended to help prevent name-squatting, is that you must have at least 1000 fans to utilize the personalized username feature. Another issue, is that Facebook doesn’t allow users to switch their username. So what is one to do when you have secured your username personally, but want to use it for your brand page? If you’re Jeremy Gutsche, the creator of Trendhunter, you file a copyright infringement…against yourself. Within a day of filing the infringement, Facebook relinquished control of the username back to the trademark’s owner, which is of course Jeremy. You can read the post on Trendhunter here. A great, creative solution to a problem.
