Top Facebook News: ‘Become a Fan’ button is changing to ‘Like’ button

Facebook sent out an e-mail to all companies with Facebook pages, notifying them of this change. This e-mail stated that the change may affect the way the companies advertise. For example, when companies show on other websites/commercials/ads that people should ‘Find their company on Facebook” or “Become a Fan” of the company, will have to change to “Like our company” on Facebook. However, there is some discrepancy over whether the “Like” button for pages will engage users the same way as the “Like” button for regular use.

Facebook’s reasoning behind this change is that they believe that Facebook users are twice as likely to “like” something, than to “become a fan”. So, in the long run, this will hopefully stimulate more awareness for businesses using this Social Media Networking tool, and generate more “fans” or people who “like” their page.

Given the fact that Facebook often makes changes, specifically, to its layout that people adapt to over time, this change is something that people will have to get used to. So, in an effort to not say the word “like” again in this blog, visit your Facebook and let us know what you think.
