Would you watch a TV series on twitter? -Better yet, be able to interact with the show in real time? Twitter has been talking to some Hollywood execs to put into action an original TV series much like MTV has The Real World and The Hills. Sounds interesting right? Twitter has yet to comment on its plan for the series, but other sources have been saying that this is not just all “talk”. Let’s see if Twitter can not only talk the talk, but walk the walk.
I’m sure that there are many people out there that would love the chance to comment on a reality show. Who wouldn’t want to respond to a crazy event that just happened in the house or a fight that was going on between two of the housemates. I have to be honest I would be sucked into this show if I had some real time interaction.
Do you think it would work? I don’t see why not. Twitter has become the main networking site for all ages especially teens. And as we know, most reality series are watched primarily by teens and tweeted about on a constant basis. Twitter has always had some impact on TV, “Did you see that outfit Beyonce has on?” , “ No Stevie J did not just walk away from Mimi like that?”, “ Wow, that was a great shot by Lebron, but where’s the D!?!” These are just a few examples of tweeting about shows. This is looking more and more like it could be a major hit for Twitter.
So how would they go about putting a TV show on Twitter you ask? They are discussing the idea of having a standalone page for the web show like previous events that Twitter has helped facilitate such as, NASCAR, the NBA, and the reality competition show Escape Routes. The page would have to resemble a microsite so that it can hold video feed and the comments/ tweets would appear as commentary on the side of the show. There was also another idea about having the show be distributed in tweets, similar to the way YouTube clips are posted. When users click on the tweet, it will expand into a full-fledged video clip.
This could get very interesting. I am intrigued to see what the outcome is for Twitters reality show. Guess we will have to wait and see for the expected show is going to air sometime this year in the fall.
