Surf Sesh: 12.4.12

Starting Point: BoilerRoom.tv

Why: My cousin recommended this site, which posts video and audio recordings of emerging DJs and electronic artists.

Checked out a set by Kink, a Polish artist, and Laurel Halo, of America.

Became more curious about the site, which consistently posts high-quality content, so clicked to the Press section (couldn’t find an About section).

Saw a glowing review from Resident Advisor, a source that I’ve heard much about but haven’t checked out, and so clicked it.

Was brought to an article about the creation of Boiler Room, and how it started as a live-streaming DJ broadcast from secret locations. Roughly 40 people were admitted physical entrance to each event but the broadcasts started attracting hundreds of thousands of followers.

The article mentions the L.A.-based website Dublab, which started in 1999 with a similar live-streaming model as Boiler Room. Clicked through to Dublab.

Was attracted to a glitchy homepage slider image, which linked to an ambient DJ set by Cat 500 and Low Leaf.

The  pseudonym Cat 500 sounded cool. Clicked through to his/her (?) homepage, a 90s net-arty labyrinth of hidden links and bizarre videos.

And chair GIFs.

Created a Chair GIFs folder on my desktop and pulled some keepers.
