The Little Agency That Did

For the past 32 years, Inc. has come out with its prestigious Inc. 500/5000 list, a ranking of companies by growth percentage over the past three years. This list is a great way to track companies that are growing and uniquely positioned for future success. It’s also a great way to level the playing field for little guys like us, and give us a chance to brag a bit when we make the list like we did last year.

Well, not only did we make the list for the second year in a row, we jumped over 2,000 spots from #4,453 in 2012 to  #2,376 – and that’s in a year when the median Inc. 5000 company featured 140% growth. Excuse me for a second while I go high-five the closest person to me.

And I’m back. Solid high-five, in case you were wondering.

You’ll forgive us for being just a little excited. When your company tops out around 20 employees, it’s not often you can find yourself among the big dogs of the business world (yes, business world, not just marketing world) and end up in the top half of a list measuring success. But that’s exactly what we’ve done, and we’re damn proud of it.

To what do we owe this growth?

You grow by producing a great product and our team of account managers, strategists, creatives and developers have done a fantastic job of coming together to deliver solutions that our clients love. Much like a restaurant’s success hinges on repeat customers, so too does ours, and our client relationships seem to grow and grow. This is no accident.

It’s also important to nurture your client relationships, and I think any of our clients would tell you we work hard to provide them with the best agency experience possible. When a client contracts us to develop a website for them, and the feedback they give us is that we made them feel like they’re our only client, we know we’re doing our jobs (oh yeah, that’s also a true story).

Now comes the hard part, doing it all again next year. Earning our way into the top half of the list for 2013 was a great accomplishment, but we all know that repeating this success means even more growth, which means more clients, which means more great work. I think I can safely speak for our team when I say to Inc., you may want to reserve a place for us next year.
