Happy Friday! Here’s this week’s recent social media updates.
Facebook improves news feed algorithm for video
Facebook announced the improvements being made to video ranking. The improvements include viewing of videos, duration of viewing, and engagement on video posts. These improvements will help personalize the News Feed video content based on people’s video viewing preferences. The videos viewers tend to watch more will rank higher in their News Feed. This improvement will affect the reach of audiences because the videos people choose to watch more often will reach higher audiences, while less watched videos will be shown to a smaller audience. Page owners can use the new video metrics section on Page insights to understand which videos are resonating higher with audiences. Source
Facebook rolls out image-focused sidebar ads
Facebook announced in April that it would be making sidebar ad images larger. On June 24, Facebook began rolling out the new Right Hand Column ad format. Ads that already meet the new specs will automatically be formatted and rendered in the large format, while those ads that are not eligible will show in the original smaller format. Moving forward from June 24th, as the increase in CPMs for larger ad format rises, more advertisers will be able to adopt the new larger format. On August 1, the right hand column ads will be subject to the %20 text rule. After September 1, all right hand column ads will be subject to the %20 text rule along with existing right hand ads.
