Facebook usernames are here! Now you can register your facebook account with a username that will give you a vanity url for either your personal profile or page.
This will probably make it easier to find people/pages on facebook, especially if the name is common or close to someone else’s. Facebook is pretty strict however, you only get one chance to choose a name and once you pick it, there isn’t any changing or transferring it, so spell carefully and make sure that you choose the best option that will help people find you.
I think that one of the best advantages of this is being able to synch your Twitter identity with your facebook username. This will ultimately just make it easier for people to find you and what you have to say. However, this is availability permitting, so get on it if you haven’t already. I’m sure that Ashton Kutcher is kicking himself that he didn’t act sooner because his Twitter name, aplusk, which garners over 2 million Twitter followers, was snagged early Saturday morning by a University of Texas grad, Benjamin Standefer. This has appropriately been referred to as facesquatting. I look forward to hearing this term used on the news…
